Jay Oliva

Lawrence Jay Oliva graduated NYU 1967.

Also known as L. Jay Oliva, he was the 14th president of New York University. Jay Oliva served as president of New York University from 1991 until May 16, 2002.

 

Jay Oliva was decorated a chevalier of the French Legion of Honor (1997) and received the Premio Guido Dorso of Italy (1998).

​John Ben Snow

Graduated NYU 1904. Started on the "ground floor" in the early days of F.W. Woolworth as a visionary with mass market sales and innovative retail techniques, from C-suite executive to the Board Room. Began new career in newspaper publishing becoming Chairman of Speidel Newspapers. One of his many philanthropic activities was improving the quality of life in the NYU community, John Ben Snow provided Nu Epsilon a physical House located at NYU University Heights in the early 1960s.

Frank J. Angell

Graduated NYU 1941 also known as Francis Angelilli. Professor Emeritus of Insurance and Finance, Leonard N. Stern School of Business having taught at NYU for 40 years.

Professor Angell was a Renaissance man who wrote six books starting with The Treatise "Insurance: Principles and Practices" in 1959 (at about 894 pages).

 

Frank touched many people's lives/shaped them fundamentally. Professor Angell was a one man NYU Alumni networking service from financing to credit or banking, Frank would introduce you to an NYU Alumnus who helped. For over 40 years Professor Angell was NYU's most popular Professor; his class was by far the most sought after in NYU's history. He was generous with his time and wisdom. He taught about life, the real world and family values.

Howard Cann

Graduated NYU1920 with degree in Engineering. American sportsman best known as the long-time men's basketball coach at New York University. He was also an Olympic shot putter and a college basketball and football player. In 1968, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a coach. He also served as Director of Physical Education at NYU from 1931 to retirement in 1958 and is commemorated in seven Sports Halls of Fame.

Orion Cheney

NYU Law graduate 1897. Lawyer, banker, and former Superintendent of Banks of State of New York. The Cheney Cup was presented to the Fraternity at the 65th Ekklesia in 1913 by Archon President Orion H. Cheney (New York 1897). The Cup is awarded to the undergraduate chapter which demonstrates the greatest all-around efficiency in scholarship, fraternity relationships, and general collegiate activities. It was designed by Tiffany and Co., New York and trhe rim the inscription reads, "Awarded each year to the chapter of Phi Gamma Delta attaining the highest efficiency in the conduct of its affairs."
